Peter Kolar is the Editor for Spanish and Bilingual Resources at GIA Publications, and a liturgical composer known for his breadth of styles spanning classical, folkloric, and pop idioms. His bilingual Mass setting, Misa Luna, is used widely in parishes across the nation. In 2015 it was sung for the papal liturgy in Philadelphia, and in 2021 it received the distinguished mass setting award from the Association of Catholic Publishers. Peter’s other bilingual Mass setting, Mass of the Sun of Justice, received the same honor in 2023. An accomplished pianist and recording artist, his solo piano CD Variations has received acclaim and is available through GIA Publications. In 2022, Peter was recognized as Pastoral Musician of the Year by the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM). He was an advisor to the U.S. Bishops on the Spanish-language chants of the Misal Romano, tercera edición. In his role as editor, Peter was responsible for the creation of the nation’s first bilingual missal, Celebremos/Let Us Celebrate. Peter holds a master’s degree in music composition from Northwestern University. He resides in El Paso, Texas, where he is the director of the El Paso Diocesan Choir.
Peter Kolar es el Editor de Recursos Bilingües y en Español en la casa editorial GIA Publications, y un compositor litúrgico conocido por la amplitud de sus estilos que abarcan expresiones clásicas, folclóricas y pop. Su obra Misa Luna se utiliza ampliamente en las parroquias a través de los Estados Unidos; en 2015 fue cantada como parte de la liturgia papal en Filadelfia y en 2021 fue reconocida por la Asociación de Editoriales Católicas como “Misa Cantada Distinguida”. Su otra Misa bilingüe, titulada Misa Sol de Justicia, recibió el mismo premio en el 2023.
